Hi, I’m J. Logan Carey, welcome to Just Live Simple!

If you’ve been wanting to make a change in your life, to minimize your clutter, stop being weighed down by the ideas that cause you to be in crushing disappointment and debt, and grow a better outlook and life for yourself, this site is for you!
What is “Simplicity”? There’s a lot of blogs, books, and speakers out there dropping the “s” word all the time, but what does it mean?
Simplicity, to me, doesn’t mean just getting rid of stuff or living in a tiny house, it means removing the unnecessary to make room for the essential. I created Just Live Simple to chart my own journey of successes, failures, and breakthroughs in the quest to eliminate the things holding me back and start living the life I was meant to live.
Here are some of the components of what I consider “living simple” and topics I blog about on the site:

MINIMALISM

“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” – William Morris    Tweet This!

In order to create room for the kind of life you want to live, it is necessary to remove the clutter: mental and physical. This doesn’t mean living a monk’s life. It simply means removing excess.
Physical clutter is the most obvious culprit. Overflowing closets, drawers, pantries, boxes, garages, and storage units are the norm today. People complain about needing more space in giant houses full to the ceiling with things they haven’t used in years or items they carry with them throughout life for reasons unknown to even themselves.
Mental clutter is the harder to clean out stuff. These are the things we tell ourselves about why we don’t work towards meaningful lives we actually wantI’m too busy… I missed the boat… it’s too late to start now. Eliminating defeatist thoughts allows us to try new things, to fail, to succeed, and to grow.

DEBT

“Debt is the slavery of the free.” – Publilius Syrus    Tweet this!
I talk a lot about debt because I’ve had a lot of it. I’ve paid off thousands over the past few years and even put down $35,000 on student loans in a 12 month period. Debt kept me from living the life I wanted and keeps millions stuck in dead end careers to pay for houses, cars, and luxury goods that don’t really improve their lives or add any measure of happiness. Debt is the dragon and we must slay  it to succeed. There is no getting around it, it must be defeated.

MINDFULNESS

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln    Tweet this!

Mindfulness can be a loaded term. Does it mean becoming a CEO? Living an organic lifestyle? Changing the world?
I suppose it can mean any of those things in the right perspective. It means living the life you were born for, the life that signposts along the way seem to subconsciously point you towards. That might might mean starting a side hustle to begin the steps towards an independent lifestyle or quitting the corporate 9 to 5 to fully pursue your passionate work.
Whatever mindfulness is to you, it’s the hub around which the rest of your living simple journey will revolve. It’s time to ask yourself the hard questions about whether the things you’ve found yourself chasing were ever important to you in the first place. I’ll be talking about those topics and more on Just Live Simple.
